The Detroit Lions signed defensive tackle Mike Daniels last season with the hopes he could help galvanize their pass-rushing unit and plug the middle.

Daniels had a tough year in Detroit, dealing with injuries and inconsistent playing time. Nevertheless, he has nothing but love for the organization.

The veteran opened up about his season with the Lions during an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio, saying he enjoyed the guys in the locker room (via Jeff Risdon of USA TODAY):

“Locker room was awesome. Definitely enjoyed my teammates there. That was one of the hardest-working group of guys I’ve ever played with. It’s unfortunate that things went the way they went outside of a lot of guys’ control. But when you really see just how hard those guys are working, it was very encouraging.”

Credit to the Lions for battling.

Detroit stood no chance after losing quarterback Matt Stafford, but Daniels seems to indicate the guys in that locker room kept battling and working to get better at their craft.

Daniels has not ruled out a return to the Lions, though it seems somewhat unlikely after a season in which he was on the field for just 18 percent of all defensive snaps.

Lions head coach Matt Patricia is very specific with respect to the personnel he uses on defense, and Daniels never really figured into his defensive scheme.

Alternatively, Daniels said he would be open to a reunion with the Green Bay Packers, where he spent the first seven years of his career.
