The LSU Tigers are making an “aggressive push to sign Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach Brian Kelly away from South Bend and heading on down to Baton Rouge. According to The Athletic, the SEC powerhouse is going hard after the well-sought-after coach after multiple notable schools have already filled their head coaching voids with LSU's other choices.

The move to pivot strongly after Kelly comes just a day after former Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley abruptly left his position and accepted the same one at USC. The domino is likely to have major effects in recruiting, transfers, and most importantly, in the NCAAF head coaching carousel. That is where Kelly finds himself, and it is likely the best job he may ever be offered. He has shown that he is an excellent recruiter, game-planner, and in-game strategist, but his abilities as a head coach are capped by the type of recruits that come to Notre Dame.

Despite the past decade-plus of winning for Kelly, his Irish are yet to win a national championship and are routinely embarrassed and laughed out of the building when they did get into the playoffs. Each Notre Dame CFP loss had to be excruciating on Kelly, especially after the fact when everyone in the media had the same narrative every year…”Notre Dame shouldn't have even been in the playoff.”

No matter how hardened of a coach you are, you ultimately want to prove those doubters wrong and win a national championship at Notre Dame, but the clock is ticking on how many more years he can go without winning the big one without taking off for greener pastures. LSU knows this and is trying to strike while the iron is hot…stay tuned.
