Young Orlando Magic forward Jonathan Isaac will be sidelined day-to-day due to a mild ankle sprain. The sophomore forward out of Florida State injured his ankle during their pre-season game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Jonathan Isaac's injury from last night's exhibition game in Philadelphia has been diagnosed as a mild right ankle sprain, a team official told the Orlando Sentinel. The team likely will list him as “day-to-day,” but chances are the Magic will proceed cautiously and not rush him.

While the team has listed him in day-to-day status, there's no telling how many weeks Isaac would miss. Chances are he will still be ready at the start of the regular season, but it would be better if the Magic opt to be careful with his recovery.

It could be recalled that Isaac also missed a huge chunk of his rookie season, also due to an ankle injury. He was forced to only play 27 games last season, a disappointing start for the 6th overall pick of last year's draft.

Even so, Isaac is a physical specimen whose intriguing potential is indeed fit for today's faster style of game. A lengthy 6-foot-11 forward, Isaac moves much quicker than other players of his size. Jeremy Woo of Sports Illustrated noted Isaac's chance to be a gamechanger for the Magic.

Isaac’s vast potential has been easily apparent from the start—he has a smooth jump shot, he’s an athletic 6’11”, long and fluid on the defensive end, and offers valuable positional flexibility at the three, four and occasionally the five.

Isaac is definitely a budding cornerstone for the young Magic team. But for now, his main focus should be on rehabbing his nagging ankle injury.
