Orlando Magic guard Markelle Fultz had another impressive outing on Sunday, as the 21-year-old logged a career-high 19 points in a 125-121 win against the Washington Wizards. Fultz went 2-of-3 from distance on Sunday, and while his 3-point shooting remains one of his weaknesses, it is clear that the former first overall pick is continuously working to this specific aspect of his game.

Following his career night, Fultz opened up about what he has been doing in this regard:

“I work for those times,” Fultz said, via Josh Robbins of The Athletic. “I know people are going to go under (on pick-and-rolls and dare me to shoot), and so I’m prepared to shoot it. Today, I knocked down my first two, so it felt good just to put in all the work and see it showing. I’m just going to shoot the shot every time I’m open.”

Right now, Fultz is making just 21.4 percent of his shots from rainbow territory, but the encouraging thing is that he is attempting a career-high 2.2 triples per ballgame. He appears to have the green light, too, as made evident by the postgame comments of Orlando head coach Steve Clifford:

“I think it just shows what a good place he’s in,” Clifford said. “Every time they’ve done that (this season), he’s shot the ball, and that’s what he’s gonna have to do, and he’ll make ’em. And then they’ll have to close (out) to him, and then he’ll be in the paint.”

Fultz continues to make waves in what has been a resurgent campaign for the former Washington University standout. The signs have indeed been encouraging for him, and at this point, it does appear that he has nowhere to go but up.
