Dallas Mavericks point guard Luka Doncic has never cared about being regarded as the MVP. Even dating back to his EuroLeague days, the 20-year-old has simply stated that he just wants to win.

Nevertheless, he appreciates the praise that he is receiving from the media and former players.

Doncic is feeling honored after former NBA star Tracy McGrady called him the best point guard in the league (via Landon Buford of Heavy.com):

“I mean, it feels amazing from him. I watch a lot of his clips – he was an unbelievable player, and I really appreciate what he said,” Doncic told Brieon Paige of Fanatics View

McGrady singled out Doncic as the leading point man during an episode of ESPN's “The Jump” last week, saying that Doncic has taken up the mantle with Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry sidelined due to injury.

Doncic is putting more than just McGrady on notice.

The Slovenian star is averaging 29.9 points, 10.4 rebounds and 9.7 assists through his first 15 games. He also leads the league with seven triple-doubles so far this season, and he is currently pacing the NBA in player efficiency rating (33.2) and value over replacement player (2.1), according to Basketball-Reference.

Dallas is benefiting from Doncic's superb play. The Mavericks improved to 10-5 after a 42-point drubbing of the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday, and they're on a four-game winning streak heading into Sunday's game against the Houston Rockets. They rank fourth in scoring (117.9) and first in offensive rating (117.6).

Luka Doncic might not care much for the MVP chatter, but it will likely follow him all season.
