The Dallas Mavericks have made a few roster moves this offseason in hopes of shaping backcourt to help provide more stability with that unit.

According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, one of those moves is expected to be having guard Yogi Ferrell play on a $2.9 million qualifying offer for the 2018-19 campaign.

The Mavericks are hoping to make this move in terms of finding another player to add to the mix on the $4.4 salary-cap room exception for next season in hopes of adding another player as well as Dirk Nowitzki back in the mix. The front office has made a concerted effort to build around their young core group next season by adding proven players to help that effort.

This also allows for Ferrell to enter the free agent market next summer where he could command a more lucrative deal from teams looking to add backcourt help. The 25-year-old is coming off a productive third year where he averaged 10.2 points on 42.6 percent shooting from the field and 37.3 percent from beyond the arc along with 3.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 27.8 minutes per contest while playing all 82 games with 21 starts. He was the only player on the team to play in every single regular season game while notching double figures 40 times with 17 contests posting at least 15 points, and five with 20 or more points.

Ferrell still figures be in the equation as a prominent factor off the bench behind second-year point guard Dennis Smith Jr. and rookie Luca Doncic. He has plenty to offer as a reliable scoring option that can create his own shot while being a factor as a playmaker when needed. It is a move that will cap Ferrell next season but opens up a huge opportunity in the summer of 2019 to cash in greatly while finding the best situation for his career moving forward.
