While a handful of teams are making waves in the trade deadline season, the Dallas Mavericks made one quiet move that they are excited about. They have awarded one of their bench guys, Kyle Collinsworth, a three-year deal. The full terms of the signing have not been disclosed.

Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle was quoted by Sports Day raving about the deal:

“I like Collinsworth… He brings a different dimension to our team. He's got size. He's more athletic than you might think. As a defender he gave us ball pressure, rebounding and a physical presence. Offensively, he's a three-position player.”

Kyle Collinsworth is fresh-off serving a pair of 10-day contracts for the team, signed on January 13th and January 28th. He saw action in 11 games and chipped in 2.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per game, while getting 10.5 minutes per appearance.

The rookie has also played for the Mavs' G-League team, the Texas Legends, in the last two seasons. In there, he was part of the regular rotation, and he was top three in minutes, rebounds, and assists per game.

In his collegiate days, Collinsworth was a standout at the Brigham Young University. Thanks to compiling all-around per game averages of 14.6 points, 8.4 boards, and 6.7 dimes for the Cougars from 2014 to 2016, he earned the nickname “Mr. Triple Double.”

It will now be intriguing to see how the 26-year-old first-year pro will be used in the Mavericks system. He may share minutes with new acquisition Doug McDermott, who was traded for longtime Mav, Devin Harris. However, considering that Dallas is out of the playoff hunt, young guys like Collinsworth are probably going to see more playing time.
