Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki has received an invitation to participate in this year's All-Star Three-Point Contest, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times.

If he accepts, this could be Nowitzki's sixth career entry into the contest, doing so in his 21st and possibly last season in the league. The German international won the 3-point crown in 2006 and could have a chance to unseat reigning champion Devin Booker.

The invite is more-so honorary, as he's shot the worst percentage from deep since his rookie season (26.1 percent) in 16 games this season.

Dirk Nowitzki is a 38.2 percent career-shooter from beyond the arc and one of the forefathers of the stretch-four position, able to snipe away while other power forwards operated from the block and wouldn't venture that far out into the perimeter.

The 7-footer was hitting above 40 percent as recently as last season, hitting 40.9 percent of his 3-point attempts in 2018-19.

While there are more deserving candidates that can take the floor in hopes to be crowned the best sniper in the game, Nowitzki's honorary mention could have a Larry Bird-like effect in the contest, pairing a legend and allowing him to leave one last mark in his legacy before calling it a career.
