There's no official indication, but this could be Dirk Nowitzki's final season. The German big man is 40-years old and clearly on the downslope of his historic career. The possibility that this would be Dirk's last season is all the more interesting after hearing that his final game could come in San Antonio.

According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, the Mavs' final game of the season is scheduled in San Antonio. Other than Dallas, that is one of the best places for Dirk to finish his incredible career.

The Tall Baller from the G and Gregg Popovich's Spurs have engaged in an exceptional rivalry over the years. The members of the Southwest division are no stranger to one another. In fact, Dirk has played 75 career games against the Spurs with averages of 19.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.

But this is assuming that the Mavericks don't secure a playoff spot this season. While they have an outside shot at sneaking in, it won't be easy. Dallas added DeAndre Jordan and Luka Doncic in the offseason, but that might not be enough to make the playoffs in the loaded Western Conference.

And of course, most people expect Dirk to retire at the conclusion of next season. But he's made no clear indication either way. If he thinks he is still capable of performing in a diminished role, he may stick around for his age-41 season.

As long as he's healthy and motivated, there's no guarantee that this will be the final season for Nowitzki.
