Dwight Powell could become a free agent in July, but the veteran forward wants to stay with the Dallas Mavericks.

Previous reports indicated that Powell has already informed the Mavs that he will opt out of the final year of his contract. However, the 27-year-old forward said that he has yet to make a decision. And if ever he decides to test the market, he made it known that returning to Dallas is still his main priority, per Brad Townsend of Sportsday.

Powell said that there is no team he “would rather be than Dallas” because of the way the franchise gave him an opportunity. The former Stanford standout was drafted 45th overall in 2014. He only played five games with the Boston Celtics before being traded to the Mavs as part of the Rajon Rondo blockbuster, and finding a role off the bench in the last four seasons.

“I think I have done everything to show that I love it here,” Powell said. “They've treated me extremely well, as an athlete and as a man. I love the Dallas Mavericks.”

Powell is coming off the best season of his career, as he averaged career-highs 10.6 points and 1.5 assists in 21.6 minutes per game. He has until June 29 to make a decision, but the report indicated that all signs are pointing to him remaining a Mav — either by opting in or getting a new contract if he decides to opt out.
