For Dallas Mavericks stars Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, the Mavs' 114-100 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday prove that they can compete with the NBA's top teams.

Doncic and Porzingis echoed each other's thoughts in a post-game interview. It's a big win for a Mavs team that has been performing relatively well in the young 2019-20 season.

Dallas currently sports a 13-6 record — tied for fourth in the Western Conference. While they are yet to be considered legitimate contenders, there's no doubt that they have been exceeding expectation.

The Mavs still have some missing key pieces and have yet to fully gel together as one cohesive unit. Head coach Rick Carlisle, too, expressed before the start of the season that their goal this 2019-20 is to make the playoffs.

Of course, the long term goal is to win a title. But the Mavs are taking it step-by-step.

Doncic and Co. snapped the Lakers' 10-game winning streak. Now, the Purple and Gold have a 17-3 record — tied for first in the league with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Beating the best and most loaded team can be tagged as a milestone in itself. However, as Porzingis said, they are off to the next one. The win over the Lakers has given them the confidence that they can beat any team in the NBA. Now, it's time build on that rejuvenated self-belief.
