The Dallas Mavericks appear ready to move on and let bygones be bygones with DeAndre Jordan and the L.A. Clippers, after what was one of the most controversial free agent non-acquisitions three years ago. In an ultimate showing of professionalism, Mavs owner Mark Cuban and company are reportedly open to the possibility of signing Jordan this summer, thereby putting aside the betrayal episode of 2015.

For a little backstory, Jordan was all set to sign with Dallas three offseasons ago as a deal was already agreed in principle between the 6-foot-11 center and the Mavs. Unfortunately for the Mavs, nothing was put on paper yet with the then-free agent, which opened up an opportunity for Jordan's Clippers teammates to allegedly hold him hostage in his home until he eventually decided to retract his initial commitment with Dallas and re-sign with L.A.

Jordan ultimately put pen to paper on an $88 million four-year deal with the Clippers, which absolutely put a sour taste in the mouth of Cuban and the entire city of Dallas. However, that deal is now entering its fourth and final year, which happens to be a player option for Jordan. This means that he can opt out of the deal and sign with any other team of his choice, provided that he has the desire to do so.

Should the Mavericks succeed in luring Jordan to Dallas, the 29-year-old will be able to fill a gaping hole in the team's frontcourt. The prospect of teaming up with the trio of Harrison Barnes, Dennis Smith Jr., and newly-acquired prospect Luka Doncic should be motivation enough for Jordan, who hopefully is able to be a man of his word this time around.
