A leaked WhatsApp voice message described the scene of a Kristaps Porzingis bar brawl in his native Latvia, one that allegedly featured the Dallas Mavericks' new acquisition speaking in his native tongue and bringing some context to the video released weeks ago.

Via Mike Fisher of 247Sports:

“S**t was messed up, some dudes started coming at me… they punched me and then I started punching them back, then things settled down for a bit, two of my guys got knocked out straight away,” said Porzingis in the voicemail. “Those dudes were from some local gang. Then this guy threw a chair at me and hit me in the head and caught one my guys as well, bunch of chairs were thrown, then I caught one them and got him real good, f**ked him and his face up then someone pushed me off of him and as I was getting up, one of them got me pretty good in the head and that's why my head was bleeding a bit, but otherwise I'm fine. I f**ked up my hand a bit, but I'll be good.”

According to an earlier report by TMZ Sports, Porzingis was attacked due to some fans' discontent for his decision to leave the New York Knicks, but that rumor was soon dispelled, as it seems Porzingis was just in the wrong place at the wrong time:

“It is our understanding that Kristaps was jumped and assaulted outside of a club in Latvia,” the Mavericks said in a statement. “We will provide an update when one is available.”

It's more likely the patrons were celebrating during “Russian Victory Weekend,” a tradition in Latvia commemorating the World War II defeat of Nazi Germany.

Latvia, which was once part of the Soviet Union, can have differing opinions of this political history.

Following the fight, Porzingis is heard saying, “I'll send your a** back to Russia!” in his native tongue, which only stands consistent with this recent version.

Porzingis suffered cuts and bruises on his hand after reportedly trying to defend a woman in his group, who was being harassed by the same patrons who attacked him. The 7-foot-3 forward was recently seen wearing a black cast on his injured hand.
