Having wrapped up his ninth season in an Oklahoma City Thunder jersey and earning the Most Valuable Player award last night at the NBA Awards Show, Russell Westbrook heard from arguably the best to lace them up shortly after receiving his award.

Jordan indeed won his first MVP in 1988, his fourth year in the league — but didn't win his first ring until 1991. Worthy to note is the help he obtained from management, signing the likes of John Paxson and building on their draftees Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant.

Westbrook will need that same type of help in order to get to that level, as last season's triple-double numbers were a clear display of the one-man show he needed to be night-in and night-out to carry his team to a win.

Regardless, there's nothing like some encouraging words from someone who's seen plenty of success as a player and now an entrepreneur, being the man in the logo of his Jordan Brand sneakers.
