The battle for the NL East is upon us as the top two teams will continue to battle it out for control over the division as the New York Mets take on the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park. The Mets took game one of the series last night, but can they keep the defending champions off the top spot in the division? It’s time to continue our MLB odds series with a Mets-Braves prediction and pick.

Why The Mets Can Cover The Spread/Win

The New York Mets are currently leading the NL East, but not by much. They have an overall record of 54-33 but the Braves are hot on their tail as they are just 2.5 games behind them. Lucky for them, Max Scherzer got the first game done and out of the way last night, so David Peterson will be looking to start on the bump tonight for the Mets. The lefty is showing a 5-1 record so far on the season while throwing a 3.48 ERA with 1.27 WHIP. The Mets are known for having one of the better pitching rotations in the league (especially when Jacob deGrom fully recovers from his injury), and they can get damage done at the plate as well. They'll look to defend the first-place spot again tonight.

Why The Braves Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Atlanta Braves are hot on the tail of the Mets in the NL East as they're only 2.5 games behind them now with an overall record of 52-36. Luckily for them, a win tonight will put them one full game closer to claiming that top seed. The Braves will need to find hot bats early in this game if they want to crack open the Mets and get some confidence back into their game. Spencer Strider will look to get the start on the bump tonight as the righty is pitching a very nice 2.60 ERA with 0.97 WHIP. He'll look to take some pressure off of the Braves' offense tonight, but he'll need some help behind him.

Final Mets-Braves Prediction & Pick

This is a tough game to bet on because it can genuinely go either way. However, the odds aren't fantastic for either side. I think the Braves can certainly get it done tonight and get back on the right track, but the odds for them to win straight up are just so high. Because of that, and knowing that anything can happen in this series, I'm going to take the Mets on the run line. The under is another solid pick as this can easily be turned into a pitching duel, but I think the safe bet (and for decent value) is to go with the Mets to cover.

Final Mets-Braves Prediction and Pick: Mets +1.5 (-128)
