The Colorado Rockies take on the San Francisco Giants. Check out our MLB odds series for our Rockies Giants prediction and pick.

Antonio Senzatela gets the ball for the Rockies, while San Francisco gives the start to Alex Wood.

Antonio Senzatela has a 3.75 ERA, which is unremarkable but not bad for a pitcher who has to make a lot of starts at Coors Field. Senzatela is trying to make sure that he can contain his numbers. ERA stats for Rockies pitchers don't exist on the same plane as they do for other pitchers throughout the National League and (now that the designated hitter is universal) all of baseball.

Alex Wood has struggled so far this season, posting a 4.38 ERA and being part of a San Francisco rotation which has had an uneven beginning to the season. The Giants roared out of the gate with a 13-5 start but then cooled off over the next week and a half. The team has played better in recent days, but Wood has to become part of the resurgence and prove that he can be part of the solution for this team in 2022. This is something to consider when making a Rockies Giants prediction based on the given MLB odds.

Why The Rockies Could Cover the Spread

The Giants are healthier and have played better over the past few days, but just as they were due to emerge from their slump, they are now due to play a bad game. The Giants have averaged eight runs per game in their last three games. That is not going to be sustained. Senzatela can contain San Francisco and enable the Rockies' bats to do damage against Alex Wood, a struggling pitcher. The pitching matchup favors Colorado, and that shouldn't be ignored when making a Rockies Giants pick.

Also realize that Colorado's Charlie Blackmon is hitting .481 in his career against Alex Wood. That is a very problematic batter-pitcher matchup for the Giants. If there are men on base with Wood pitching against Blackmon, the Rockies will be in a very good position in this game. If Blackmon regularly gets on base, that provides opportunities for other Colorado hitters.

Why The Giants Could Cover the Spread

After playing really bad baseball for roughly a week to a week and a half, a period which carried through a Friday, May 6 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, the Giants have awakened. They scored 13 against the Cardinals on Saturday and posted eight runs in a win against the Rockies on Monday night. Brandon Belt is back. LaMonte Wade is back. The Giants had some health and injury problems but are largely past them, and that should mean a lot for this team as it bounces back.

Also, Antonio Senzatela is not the shutdown starter who can immediately and fully smother the Giants' improving hitters. Colorado needs an elite ace-level pitcher to deal with the fact that San Francisco hitters are coming alive right now.

Final Rockies-Giants Prediction & Pick

If the Giants' resurgence continues for one more game, the Rockies are in big trouble. Yes, the Giants are going to score fewer than eight runs here, but they can still win 6-4 or 5-3.

Final Rockies-Giants Prediction & Pick: Giants -1.5
