The New York Mets will host the Colorado Rockies for a three-game set at Citi Field. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Rockies-Mets prediction and pick.

Despite their current three-game winning streak, the Rockies are in last place in the entire National League. New York, on the other hand, is currently in first place in the NL East despite a negative run differential on the season. This game features an underwhelming pitching matchup as Austin Gomber of the Rockies gets set to take on David Peterson of the Mets.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the Rockies-Mets odds.

MLB Odds: Rockies-Mets Odds

Colorado Rockies +1.5 (-175)

New York Mets -1.5 (+155)

Over 6.5 Runs (-120)

Under 6.5 Runs (+100)

Why The Rockies Could Cover The Spread

The Rockies haven't been very good in 2021, which was to be expected after dealing Nolan Arenado in the offseason. Next in line to be shipped off is shortstop Trevor Story, who is putting together a solid season in Colorado. He has been hitting the ball well and showing off his speed with seven stolen bags. Story and the majority of the Rockies have been really struggling over the past couple of weeks, though. Colorado will pray that the three-game sweep over the Arizona Diamondbacks will spark a little life into this club.

Left-hander Austin Gomber will get the nod for the Rockies in the series opener. Gomber has been serviceable at best this season with a 2-4 record and 4.96 ERA. He was fairly solid in his last two outings with just one earned run allowed in 11 1/3 innings combined. Gomber threw six innings of one-run ball in a 2-1 loss against the San Padres in his last start. The southpaw will make his first career start against the Mets.

Why The Mets Could Cover The Spread

The Mets are currently in first place in the NL East despite their plethora of injuries and struggling bats. Shortstop Francisco Lindor is desperately trying to wake his bat up as he is the catalyst for this lineup. Lindor currently has three home runs and nine RBI on the young season. The Mets gave the superstar shortstop a huge contract extension in the offseason, and he will ultimately be the guy that makes or breaks this Mets season. With World Series aspirations and an elite pitching staff, New York will need to start scoring some runs in the near future. This is a great series for them to begin doing so.

Left-hander David Peterson will get the ball for the Mets in the opener. Peterson has had a disappointing season thus far with a 1-3 record and 4.97 ERA. Peterson has shown flashes in a couple of starts but hasn't been able to sustain success over consecutive outings. The southpaw has shown an inability to work deep into outings and constantly puts strain on the bullpen. In his first career start against Colorado, Peterson will need to attack the zone against a struggling lineup and get some run support from his squad.

Final Rockies-Mets Prediction & Pick

The Mets should and will take care of business in this series against Colorado. New York has been great at home with an 11-4 record. David Peterson has been a much better pitcher at Citi Field and gets a struggling lineup in the opener. Colorado is 2-17 on the road this season and Austin Gomber has been horrid. Let's roll with the Mets to take care of business and build momentum in a comfortable victory.

FINAL PICK: New York Mets -1.5 (+155)
