Start spreading the news! In what should be a thrilling matchup between two American League foes looking to leave their mark in each of their divisions, the Chicago White Sox head out east to the Bronx to battle it out with the New York Yankees on the diamond. Join us for our MLB odds series, where our White Sox-Yankees prediction and pick will be made for all sports bettors alike to see.

Entering play on Friday with an even 19-19 record, the second-place White Sox will be eager to get themselves above .500 with a win on the road at Yankee Stadium. Tasked with this job will be the longtime left-handed hurler in Dallas Keuchel, who would love to return to even a fraction of his past form in year's past. The 34-year-old Keuchel has compiled a 2-3 record and has seen his ERA skyrocket to a 5.54 mark in his recent outings.

Obviously one of the more winningest franchises in all of professional sports, the Yankees are trying to perfect their game in the early months of the season to be prepared to try to win their first World Series championship since 2009. Getting the nod on the mound in this one will be early season Cy Young candidate Nestor Cortes, who sports a 2-1 record and lowly 1.35 earned-run average.

Why The White Sox Could Cover the Spread

After a highly unusual five-game series against the Kansas City Royals, the White Sox managed to escape with three victories over the handful of contests, and are looking to introduce themselves to the rest of the baseball world as a contender rather than a pretender this weekend versus the Yankees. In fact, Chicago should have even more motivation to get the job done this weekend after coming up short versus New York last weekend when they lost three of four.

The good news? The White Sox are swinging the bats with efficiency lately, as they mustered up 14 hits in disposing of Kansas City 7-4 on Thursday. While streaky at times, this is a White Sox lineup that is still looking to come out of its shell at the plate. The offensive explosion against their division rivals earlier this week was encouraging. Still, they need to vastly improve their hitting stats in order to start seeing victories be added up in the win column. Chicago has only scored 135 runs on the season through 38 games, fifth-worst in the MLB.

Pitching-wise, the White Sox have collectively pitched to a 3.71 ERA, but are 25th in WHIP at 1.32 and are allowing teams to hit .237 off of them.

With only eight total quality starts under their belt as a starting staff, Dallas Keuchel needs to turn back the clock to only a few short seasons ago when he was once considered one of the best pitchers in the game. Keuchel has competed rather well against the Yankees in his career with a 4-4 record and 2.06 ERA in ten career starts.

Why the Yankees Could Cover the Spread

Many Yankees fans can smell the infectious aroma of winning when they walk to the stadium on Friday, as New York is a tremendous 28-10 including a 14-4 record inside their home ballpark. With 28 wins being the most victories in baseball, the sky is the limit when looking at this Yankees squad.

No surprise here, but the best part of the Yankees' game at the dish is how far they can hit the ball into the stands. With towering players with the caliber of outfielders like Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, many fans can take home souvenirs when they attend a Yankees game due to the amount of home runs that the Yankees swat. Ranking second in round-trippers with an absurd amount of 55 of them, New York leads the majors in slugging percentage at .423 and is also fourth in runs scored with 187.

With 18 punchouts in his previous two outings, Cortes has proven that he can be one of the top pitchers in the sport through his five stars. While there is plenty of baseball to still be played, Cortes can be a bonafide ace on this pitching staff that already possesses an abundance of talented arms. In only 23 starts to his young career, Cortes sure does look like the real deal.

Final White Sox-Yankees Prediction & Pick

New York has only lost four home games in 2022 and is coming into this game winners of three straight at Yankee Stadium. Who in their right mind would want to bet against Nestor Cortes right now? The Yankees are coming off a loss against the Orioles, and they certainly do not often lose consecutive matchups. Chicago will battle the best way they can, but it won't be enough against a Yankees squad with all of the firepower in the world at their disposal.

Final White Sox-Yankees Pick: Yankees -1.5 (-110)
