Riot Games has implemented a multi-factor authentication (MFA) feature to secure their accounts among all Riot Games titles. Players can set up this simple additional security step in order to keep safe all their belongings and prevent account fraud. Before, Riot already made an MFA feature where players have to enter a code using another device. This will only require a code instead to be entered each time they log in to the game. MFA is an electronic security measure that only permits access to a person's account after performing presented two forms of authentication. It adds another security level besides username and password, which can be hacked or given to other people easily.

An MFA protects the account owners’ private information like their email address, and payment information, or even residency. Here are a simple set of steps made by Riot Games player support page when enabling your MFA:

  1. Sign in to your Riot account page.
  2. Navigate to the Sign-In & Security tab.
  3. Locate the 2-factor authentication card.
  4. Click the Resend email button.
  5. Navigate to the inbox of your connected email address.
  6. Find and open the MFA email you received from Riot games (If you don’t see the email in your inbox, check the spam folder.)
  7. From the email, click the Enable Two-Factor Authentication button.

Riot Games is still developing other alternatives to make MFA more convenient for players. A mobile authenticator would not be impossible because of the simplicity of the authentication needed to do on it. Players have invested countless hours in their accounts so they want to make sure all of their hard work is secured from any threats.
