Kyrie Irving has never been one to give a boring interview. The mercurial Brooklyn Nets guard has always been willing to speak his mind.

Kyrie did exactly that heading into last season, as the Brooklyn Nets entered their first year under Steve Nash. When asked about the transitioning coaching situation, Irving gave a rather polarizing response.

While Irving has since reneged on his initial statement from last season, the controversial take was discussed by Hall of Fame point guard Gary Payton on Nothing Personal with David Samson:

“That’s just a shame right there,” Payton said of Kyrie Irving's comments. “I think that that was a bad statement by him. You should respect the coaches, you should respect the guys that have been put in those positions.”

“And if you want to be that guy, if you were a guy that was my superstar, and you come to me, and you perform on the floor and do the things on the floor that you are supposed to, then I’m gonna bring you in on everything I’m gonna do, anyway. Because I wanna keep you happy and keep my team happy.”

Kyrie Irving and the Nets eventually found much success under the tutelage of Steve Nash, who seemed like the perfect man to steer the superstar-studded ship in Brooklyn. Safe to say he won't be making any statements of that nature about Nash anytime soon.
