In a recent interview, Marion went on an epic NSFW rant as he called out any and all critics who want to talk about his jumper without recognizing everything else he did in the game:

“That was the one thing they did to me. They talk about my motherf—–g shot,” Marion said, via TMZ Sports. “Don't nobody in the f—–g league shoot the same. Get the f— out of here. I'm shooting 35-40% from the f—–g 3-point line at one point in my career and whatever. I was a very consistent jump shooter, so you want to sit there and tell me you want to talk about my motherf—–g shot, but don't want to talk about everything else I do on the f—–g floor? Get the f— out of here. Suck my d—. Like, seriously.”

Marion was clearly in a foul mood here. More than a few folks out there have made jokes about the one-time NBA champ's unorthodox form, but after this tirade, we all might want to think twice the next time we talk about his shot. I honestly didn't realize Marion was this sensitive about his jumper.

For what it's worth, here's an epic five-minute compilation of Shawn Marion shooting the basketball:

As you can see, Marion was an excellent shooter in his day. His shot may not have looked pretty, but what you cannot deny is that it was highly effective.

In the next part of his rant, Marion then went on to discuss just how dominant he was as a player. What strikes a nerve in him is how people just focus on his unconventional jump shot while overlooking how much of a force he was during his heyday:

“I'm averaging 20 and 10,” Marion continued. “Listen, I'm averaging 20+ points and over 10 rebounds a game at 6'7″ in a league that's dominated by bigs at the time. Dominated by power forward and centers, and then I'm getting two blocks and I'm getting 2+ steals per game. And you want to sit there and talk about my motherf—–g shot? Don't nobody in the f—–g league shoot the same.”

He's not wrong. In arguably the best season of his career, he averaged 21.8 points (on 52.5 percent shooting), 11.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game.

Marion wasn't done talking about his credentials. He continued by reminding everyone how he remains to be one of the best players in Phoenix Suns franchise history:

“Who got the No. 1 winning percentage in Phoenix Suns history? F—–g me,” Marion said. “I'm Top 5 in almost every category in Phoenix Suns history. Go back and look at it. Numbers don't lie. I'm not talking about bull—t, I'm talking straight facts. I don't play these games… I got one of the best winning percentages in NBA history. Believe that.”

Marion is indeed speaking facts here. It also wasn't just with the Suns that Marion made a tremendous impact. After bouncing around the league for a little bit, Marion spent the final years of his career with the Dallas Mavericks. Alongside the great Dirk Nowitzki, Marion played a key role in the Mavs' epic 2011 championship run. Say what you want about Marion and his jumper, but you can never discredit what this man brought to the game.
