NBA legend Steve Nash has admitted that it took him two years to realize that while he can't play at a high level anymore.

Per Chat News Today, the former two-time league MVP looked back on his illustrious career as one of the best point guards in history. While he officially hung his jersey up in 2015 after two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, he wasn't aware that those two years were the last drops of fuel from his body.

“It took me two years to realize that,” said Nash, who grew up in Victoria and now makes his home in the Los Angeles area.

His stint with the Lakers was a last-ditch effort to win that elusive title. While Nash could definitely still play, injuries started creeping in and he wasn't as sharp as he was like his days with the Phoenix Suns. Despite this realization, Nash, 45, does not regret extending his career that long.

“Looking back I never would have guessed that I’d get to play 18 seasons. I’m incredibly fortunate. It’s strange though, because in those last year and a half, two years when I was really struggling, I really wanted it so bad. As bad as ever. I put so much time and effort into trying to play as long as I could.

“And I was kind the last to know, the last to see. But in a sense it leaves me with no regrets.”

Since retirement, Nash has done consulting jobs to various players and teams. In 2017, he won his first championship as a player development consultant for the Golden State Warriors. Without a doubt, Nash will go down as one of the greatest players that we have ever seen.
