Why The Cavaliers Could Cover The Spread

The Cleveland Cavaliers have had a very solid first half of the season. While injuries and COVID have impacted their success, they have still managed to claim a winning record through 40 games. The Cavs have 22 wins and 18 losses, but just suffered a tough 16 point loss to the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors are a very good team, and the return of Klay Thompson did not make that game easier on Cleveland. Regardless, they face a weaker opponent on Monday. If they can overcome their last game, the Cavs should be able to end up on top against the Kings.

Cleveland came up short in a lot of ways in their loss to Golden State. In a game where the over under was 215 points, the Cavs and Warriors combined for only 178. Cleveland was just completely lacking on the offensive end. Their first and most notable problem was a lack of shooting volume. The Cavs only took 75 shots, compared to 97 from the Warriors. 75 shots is not enough to win a game in today's NBA where teams average over 88 shot attempts per game. Additionally, the Cavs were an abysmal 7 for 24 from beyond the arc. If Cleveland wants to dominate Sacramento then their offense needs to step up.

COVID and injuries are currently affecting nearly every team in the NBA. However, the Cavs have been able to avoid crippling losses. While key players were previously out for Cleveland, they have since returned, leaving the Cavs with a mostly healthy roster. Cleveland currently only has three players on their injury report, none of which were added in the last week. The Cavs are healthy and will be looking for a bounce back win on Monday. This is certainly a winnable game for Cleveland, so expect them to show up ready.

Why The Kings Could Cover The Spread

The Sacramento Kings have been struggling through the first half of the NBA season. In 42 regular season games, the King have only managed to win 16 and have lost 26. Sacramento has not been doing well recently. The Kings have lost their last four games, with their most recent loss coming against the Portland Trail Blazers by 15. Sacramento will look to turn things around on Monday as they face a recently defeated Cavaliers team. Cleveland was exposed in their last game and could give the Kings a chance to stop their losing streak. If Sacramento wants to end up on top they will need to improve on their most recent performance.

The Kings faced off against a very weak Trail Blazers team, but came up short by 15 points. Portland had the edge in nearly every statistic, but not by a drastic margin. The biggest difference in that game was three pointers. The Kings only went 7 for 31 from beyond the arc, compared to the Blazers who made 17 of 40 attempts. This 10 shot difference is the reason that Portland was able to win that game. If the Kings want to take down the Cavs they will need to shoot better. Specifically, they will need to make some threes. Three pointers are the bread and butter of today's NBA and a team that can't shoot threes will find little success.

While many things may not be going Sacramento's way, at least most of their roster is healthy. The Kings currently have only three players on their injury report. Maurice Harkless is listed as day-to-day and is questionable for Monday's matchup. Richaun Holmes remains in the league's health and safety protocols and will likely miss Monday's game. With that said, most of the Kings roster is healthy and will be available on Monday.

Final Cavaliers-Kings Prediction & Pick

This should be an interesting game. The Cavs were extremely disappointing in their game against the Warriors and totally came up short on offense. However, Sacramento has also been struggling to get things going and has come up short across the board. The most likely fluke between these two teams is the Cavs, Cleveland is better than they showed in their last game. Expect the Cavs to bounce back and pick apart the Kings. Pick Cleveland to win and cover.
