The Detroit Pistons do not appear to have a whole lot of interest in Sacramento Kings forward Marvin Bagley III.

Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported the Pistons turned down a Bagley offer from the Kings, with Sacramento asking for rookie swingman Saddiq Bey in return:

The Sacramento Kings have made the No. 2 pick in the 2018 NBA draft available for a trade, with the Kings recently being turned down by the Detroit Pistons, having offered Bagley III for promising rookie Saddiq Bey, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Such a deal would make little sense for the Pistons.

Bey has been a strong asset for Detroit as a “3-and-D” type who can rebound. The former Villanova star is averaging 10.6 points and 4.1 boards while also shooting 38.6 percent from beyond the arc on 5.7 attempts per game. There is no reason to deal him on a rookie contract when the Pistons are still building.

Meanwhile, Bagley has had a very chaotic tenure in Sacramento. He will also be a restricted free agent in 2022.

The former No. 2 overall pick's career has been rife with injury issues. Bagley played just 13 games due to a myriad of injuries last season and is currently out with a fracture in his left hand. He has not been all that terrific when healthy, anyway.

Bagley was averaging 13.9 points and 7.4 rebounds through his first 37 games. He has upside as an athletic big who can score around the rim and projects decently as a stretch-4.

However, Bagley was one of the worst defenders in basketball this season when healthy. He simply has not lived up to the billing of his draft selection and no surprise the Pistons declined the offer.

Haynes reported Bagley and the Kings are likely headed for a divorce. But it remains to be seen whether teams will actively pursue Bagley.
