Brooklyn Nets guard Allen Crabbe should be spending an increased amount of time working out and practicing with his new team, but an injured ankle is keeping him away from basketball activities. And according to latest reports, his availability for the Nets’ first preseason game is in jeopardy. Brian Lewis of the New York Post even tweeted that Crabbe is sporting a walking boot, which is making Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson a bit frustrated.

Crabbe was traded to the Nets by the Portland Trail Blazers for Andrew Nicholson back in July and his arrival to Brooklyn appears to be good news for the swingman in terms of getting his desired playing minutes. The Nets are projecting Crabbe to be their starting small forward, an enticing opportunity for Crabbe, who only started seven games for Portland last season while averaging 10.7 points on 46.8 shooting percentage.

Crabbe hurt his ankle last Wednesday during practice and while it’s not serious enough to doubt his readiness for the regular season, the time he’s losing right now could open an opportunity for DeMarre Carroll to overtake him on the team’s small forward pecking order.

The Blazers play the New York Knicks on October 3 for their first game of the preseason.
