If you think the Brooklyn Nets' Kyrie Irving-Kevin Durant trade predicament is going to be dealt with quickly, buckle up. It's going to be a long ride. The Nets were put into a tough spot after Durant asked for a trade following Irving opting in for the year. Now, the Nets will need to find trades for both stars.

Although Brooklyn has been quick to move on in previous situations (i.e. James Harden to Philly), every indication thus far suggests the Nets front office is going to be painfully patient. In an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, NBA insider Shams Charania gave some insight into the Nets' thought process.

“They're making moves and doing things this offseason, in their mind, in preparation as if they're bringing these two guys back next season and playing with these two guys,” Charania said.

Shams did add that the Nets are open to trade offers, but are firm in their asking price of “all-star” caliber players or a “boatload” of draft picks. Shams referenced moves like Kawhi Leonard being traded to Toronto as an example that the situation could take months to resolve.

Maybe the Nets truly feel as though Durant and Irving will take the floor next season. With Irving's recent reputation for missing games and star players holding out more and more across the league, that just feels unlikely. Feelings on both sides will have to change significantly to mend the situation.

If Brooklyn doesn't care about holdouts, there will be time to work things out. Irving just opted in for another year and Durant has four years left. The Nets can wait for the right deal for as long as they want.
