The Brooklyn Nets have still chosen not to sign Carmelo Anthony and have instead elected to sign forward C.J. Williams and big man John Egbunu, according to the team.

Williams has spent time as a two-way player with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Clippers. Egbunu hasn't yet made an NBA appearance.

Shams Charania of The Athletic adds that the Nets are also progressing on a deal for forward Lance Thomas. It was reported earlier this week that Thomas was a strong candidate to join the club. If he does, Brooklyn will have a full camp roster of 20 players.

Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant have reportedly been pushing the Nets to sign Anthony, who has been available since late January after being waived by the Chicago Bulls. Other Nets are reportedly interested in bringing him in as well, but Charania recently reported a signing was unlikely.

Anthony played 10 games for the Houston Rockets this past season, averaging 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds over 29.4 minutes per game while shooting 40.5 percent from the floor, 32.8 percent from 3-point range and 68.2 percent from the free-throw line.

However, the Rockets then “exiled” Anthony before eventually trading him to the Bulls in January. He was immediately cut by Chicago.

There had been some chatter that the Los Angeles Lakers could bring in Anthony, especially considering his relationship with LeBron James, but the Lakers never signed him during the season and also did not appear to express any interest in him over the summer.

Anthony is just three seasons removed from an All-Star appearance during his final year with the New York Knicks in 2016-17, when he averaged 22.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.

That ensuing offseason, the Knicks traded Anthony to the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he spent one year alongside of Russell Westbrook and Paul George, registering 16.2 points and 5.8 boards a night while making just 40.4 percent of his shots and 35.7 percent of his triples.

The Thunder cut Anthony after one year.
