The Brooklyn Nets were involved in a controversy during their recent game against the Washington Wizards when assistant coach David Vanterpool was accused of game interference. With 5:42 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Nets' 119-118 win over the Wizards, Vanderpool reached out his arm and deflected a pass thrown by Washington forward Kyle Kuzma, which was ultimately stolen by Brooklyn, to the chagrin of Kuzma and the rest of the Wizards players, who cried Nets' interference. On Thursday, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported the punishment levied by the NBA on both Vanderpool and the Nets for their game interference against the Wizards.

Per Charania, Nets assistant David Vanterpool was fined $10,000 and the Nets organization was fined $25,000 for their game interference in Wednesday's contest against the Wizards.

It seems like a lenient punishment for something that clearly cost the Wizards a chance at winning the game over Brooklyn. Who knows what would have happened if Vanderpool hadn't channeled his inner Mike Tomlin when Kuzma threw the pass.

Wizards fans will never know, thanks to the Brooklyn assistant coach's game interference. However, Brooklyn fans can fire back by saying that their squad, which has a better record than Washington, would have found a way to win the game anyway.

So, when is the next Nets-Wizards game? Anyone?
