It initially appeared as though current Boston Celtics point guard and soon-to-be free agent Kyrie Irving was slated to become a member of the New York Knicks. However, it has become more and more likely that Irving will ultimately join the crosstown rival Brooklyn Nets upon officially hitting the open market, which currently has ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith less than thrilled.

“I’m disgusted,” Smith recently said, via SB Nation's Nets Daily. “Disgusted. I told Jay-Z and them that they betrayed me. I told them that just the other day. Kyrie was always talking about going wherever, [but] he’s always loved Brooklyn.”

“I was told he was gonna go wherever KD [Kevin Durant] went — and KD was the guy. And KD was strongly considering New York. If you’re talking about Kyrie on his own, then the chances of him landing in Brooklyn are exponentially higher. With Kyrie I’m not sure. He’s talking to KD one minute, Kobe the next minute, we don’t know what the hell he’s going to do, but right now it’s an issue [for the Knicks].”

In addition to the possibility of signing Irving, the Knicks also have their sights set on current Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant and current Toronto Raptors swingman Kawhi Leonard. However, it is also worth noting that Durant remains in line to miss the entire 2019-20 campaign after tearing his Achilles tendon during the 2019 NBA Finals between the aforementioned Warriors and Raptors. Nonetheless, Irving remains in the mix for both New York-based franchise while now only time will tell.
