Rookie coach Steve Nash knew coming in that his job as the new tactician of the Brooklyn Nets will be filled with challenges. Early into the NBA season, his first roadblock comes in the name of Spencer Dinwiddie who'll be sidelined indefinitely after he partially tore his ACL on Sunday against the Charlotte Hornets.

Dinwiddie's knee will require surgery which automatically rules him out for the entire season.

Ahead of their Monday night game against the Memphis Grizzlies, Nash was visibly emotional as he discussed with the media the impact of Dinwiddie's loss (via SNY).

“Just deeply saddened for Spencer. It's a tough break for him and for us, obviously. [He's] a terrific player that who's able to fill multiple roles for us. He'll be really missed by us but more importantly, we all feel for Spence.”

In only three games this season, Dinwiddie averaged 6.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists.

All eyes were on Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving coming into this season but a lot was expected of Dinwiddie as well as the Nets' third scorer. Both Durant and Irving were already proven superstars but the team's success would also heavily rely on the role players, spearheaded by the 27-year old Dinwiddie. Last year, he helped lead the Nets to a winning record last season but opted out of the NBA Bubble because of health concerns.

Spencer Dinwiddie was set to play heavy minutes alongside Irving to complete the Nets backcourt as he was hoping to follow-up his career year last season when he averaged a career-high 20.6 points. With him out, it's now Caris LeVert's job to step up and fill in Dinwiddie's shoes.
