There’s a reason why the Brooklyn Nets chose to keep Caris LeVert, and fans got to see that reason in the Nets’ 107-105 win over state-rivals New York Knicks.

Brooklyn led by as much as 12 points in the game and was ahead by seven after the first half. Nonetheless, a huge 26-17 third quarter saw the Knicks turn the tables, get the lead, and set up an intense payoff period.

With less than 15 seconds remaining and the two teams tied at 105, however, LeVert stepped up for Brooklyn and helped them avoid overtime. The 24-year-old guard let the clock run down, and with 10 seconds left, he started his drive, moved past the defending Tim Hardaway Jr. and hit a well-contested layup.

LeVert, who had his fourth-year option picked up by the Nets last week, finished with a team-high 28 points, along with six rebounds and five assists.

His rise to Nets fame began last season during D'Angelo Russell's recovery from an injury. With Russell back to full health, LeVert seems to have not missed a beat and head coach Kenny Atkinson is giving him the green light to take over.

His game-winner also gave the Nets their first win of the season, having lost to the Detroit Pistons in their opener last Wednesday.
