There are plenty of talented players in the NFL who struggle to get back into the fold due to off-court problems. Aldon Smith is one such talent, but it seems like he’s on his way back to the league after staying clean of alcohol and other distractions that derailed his career.

The former All-Pro pass rusher has been slapped with an indefinite ban due to his inability to get his life back together. It would have been understandable if fans expected him to not show his face in the league once again as he was slapped with DUI and domestic violence raps over the past couple of years.

However, NFL insider Jay Glazer believes that Smith is close to making an NFL return. He stated that the former Oakland Raider has been training at his Unbreakable gym, and he likes what he’s seeing from Smith.

Per Raiders Wire’s Levi Damien:

“Aldon has now been sober for a while and he’s been helping a lot of our vets with their sobriety. That’s the biggest thing you’ve got to do is be of service to other people and he got that. We’ve given a lot of guys second chances. He deserves it as much as anybody I’ve been around.”

Aldon Smith has shown his quality in his short NFL career, with 180 tackles, 47.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, eight pass deflections, and an interception to his name. If he does make it back to the NFL, he will provide a good roadmap for players like Antonio Brown to follow.
