Longtime NFL wide receiver Jeremy Maclin formally announced his retirement from the league on Sunday. Maclin, who did not play this past season after being released by the Baltimore Ravens following the conclusion of the 2017-18 campaign, made the announcement at his wife's baby shower over the weekend.

While a video of the announcement was posted on social media by a friend of Maclin, the veteran wide out also tweeted the news on Sunday.

The 30-year-old pass catcher was originally selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft out of Missouri. Remaining in Philadelphia between 2009-10 and 2014-15, Maclin then made his way to the Kansas City Chiefs for another two seasons before signing on with the aforementioned Ravens for only the 2017-18 campaign.

Appearing in 114 career regular season games atop the highest level, Maclin caught 514 passes en route to tallying 6,875 yards and 49 touchdowns. He was targeted 841 times as a NFL wide receiver and averaged 13.3 yards per catch as well. His best single-season effort came in 2014-15, his final go-round as a member of the Eagles. Maclin produced 85 receptions for a career-high 1,318 yards and 10 touchdowns during that 2014-15 season. He only produced more than 1,000 receiving yards in a single season twice while the second occurrence came in 2015-16 in his first season with the Chiefs.

A steady presence for all three of the teams that employed him over the years, Maclin served as a formidable option at the wide receiver position throughout his NFL career. It is also worth noting that injuries could have played a role in him calling it a career at age 30.
