Former Mississippi State Bulldogs pass rusher and current 2019 NFL Draft prospect Montez Sweat impressed throughout the 2018 college football season. The up-and-coming defender hasn't slowed down at this year's NFL Scouting Combine. Anything but. Sweat has already set a new modern record for the fastest 40-yard dash time for a defensive lineman.

On Sunday, Sweat notably ran his 40-yard dash in 4.41 seconds, which has become the fastest time by a defensive lineman at the NFL Scouting Combine since 2003. Sweat, who somehow weighs 260 pounds, has officially surpassed the previous modern record set by both Manny Lawson in 2006 and Isaac Hilton in 2004.

“Some will see Sweat as a leggy edge prospect with average play strength and a lack of refinement in his pass rush,” reads Sweat's NFL.com 2019 NFL Draft profile. “I see a talent, similar to Danielle Hunter out of LSU, with above-average length and a prospect who should continue to grow into his frame, allowing him to unleash his rush flashes into a consistent attack. His transition as an NFL rusher will take some time, but like Hunter, he should come out on the other side as a good, impact starter as an every-down edge defender.”

It is no secret that Sweat will come off the board sooner rather than later in the 2019 NFL Draft in late April. However, his 2019 NFL Draft stock may have just taken another turn for the better due to his flashy speed in the open field — in addition to his ability to make game-changing plays, of course.
