The Wild host the Carolina Hurricanes in the state of hockey tonight, as both teams are on similar stages in the season. Carolina is currently sitting at the top of the Metropolitan Division with 67 points, but Minnesota is 3rd in the West with 59 points. Both Minnesota and Carolina are looking to prove themselves in the playoffs after putting in excellent work in the regular season, but there are still months before we see that potential Stanley Cup matchup come to fruition. It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Hurricanes-Wild prediction and pick.

Why The Hurricanes Can Cover The Spread/Win

Over their last 11 games, Carolina has gone 8-2-1, with both regulation losses coming from when their top goaltender, Frederik Andersen isn't starting in net. He has 25 wins in 31 starts, repping just 2.01 goals against and a .930 save percentage. Look for Andersen to get the start tonight against a strong Wild team, and help keep the Hurricanes on pace to win the Metropolitan Division. Carolina will also enter this game with more reinforcements, thanks to Teuvo Teravainen having returned in their last game against Boston where he recorded three assists.

The Hurricanes have a very deep and well-balanced offense, mainly in the hands of stars Sebastien Aho and Andrei Svechnikov. Coach Rod Brind'Amour recently shifted up the lines, allowing both top talent players to bring the pressure for both top lines. While Carolina has an elite offensive attack, their defense has been stellar, having allowed the fewest goals against this season. Look for them to continue their aggressive attack tonight against a strong Minnesota team.

Why The Wild Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Wild head into this game with an 8-1-1 record in their past ten matchups, and were on a six-game winning streak heading into the All-Star break before it finally snapped after their first game back from the break, being shut out in Winnipeg by the Jets on Tuesday. Minnesota will be happy to be back at full health tonight as top-four defenseman Matt Dumba returns to the lineup. Offensively, Minnesota's top line of Kirill Kaprizov, Mats Zuccarello, and Ryan Hartman has been extremely strong as of late, as all three line-mates are on pace for having career years so far. The team's downfall may just be in the net, but even then, starter Cam Talbot was elected as an All-Star this year.

So far on the year, he has 18 wins in 27 starts and is allowing 2.81 goals against per game, with a .913 save percentage. Talbot could be showing better numbers considering his team around him is so talented, but look for the All-Star to defend the home cage tonight against Carolina.

Final Hurricanes-Wild Prediction & Pick

Both teams are spectacular, even have the same odds for a straight-up winner. I think this will be an extremely close game, especially for the Wild to have that Saturday night home crowd on their side. And for that reason alone, I'm picking Minnesota at home. Again, this game can go either way, but I think the intensity of the Wild fans will help push them to a victory tonight.

Final Hurricanes-Wild Prediction & Pick: Wild (-110)
