The NHL free agency has been on fire on Wednesday, as multiple players are joining new teams. It's been an interesting offseason for the Dallas Stars, as they somehow managed to swindle Mason Marchment away from the Carolina Hurricanes.

Pierre LeBrun speculated that another franchise could swoop in and sign Marchment in free agency. Many believed he'd be heading to the Hurricanes, however, it sounds like the Stars made a strong push to persuade the star wing to come to Dallas instead.

Then shortly after LeBrun's speculation, the Stars pull off the heist and sign Marchment to a four-year $18 million deal. The Hurricanes are left in the dust, as Carolina still needs a depth wing on the roster. Luckily for them, there is plenty of talent remaining in the free agency pool, but it will hurt the franchise to miss out on one of their top targets this offseason.

It's a great move for this franchise, as the Stars needed to improve their offensive depth. They get just that after acquiring Mason Marchment in free agency. Last year, he recorded 18 goals and 47 points on the season, making him a reliable wing Dallas can depend on. If they can get similar production out of the gate, then this team will take the necessary steps to improve.

We'll see how it all plays out. The Stars walk away with an upgrade on offense while the Hurricanes are still searching for key addition. Pay close attention to the NHL free agency, as more big signings are sure to come to fruition.
