The Washington Capitals play host to the Ottawa Senators in the matinee matchup for the NHL game slate today. It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Senators-Capitals prediction and pick.

In the past, Washington has dominated this matchup, going 10-0 in their last ten meetings. Can the Capitals keep it going over Ottawa today, or will the Senators get in the way?

Why the Senators Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Senators are on the second half of a back-to-back series, following yesterday's 2-0 shutout loss to the Boston Bruins. Ottawa continues to play without two of their star players, Dake Batherson and Josh Norris, who are both out with injuries, and it shows; the Senators have been shut out in two straight games. Anton Forsberg is slated to be the starting netminder for Ottawa today, who's just 2-6 in his last eight starts. He is averaging 3.02 goals against per game, and a .911 save percentage. Without much help on the front end, Forsberg will look to try and shut the door against a thriving Washington Capitals team to keep the Senators in this game.

Why the Capitals Can Cover The Spread/Win

After a 5-2 victory over the Montreal Canadians on Thursday, the Capitals head home as they look to keep things on track. Washington has been trending downwards as of late, with Alex Ovechkin being inactive due to Covid regulations. But even with their superstar captain watching from home, the Capitals offense has been picking up the slack, scoring four or more goals in four of their last five games. Washington could really use a “pick me up” here to gain confidence as they face another inferior opponent in the Ottawa Senators. It's a game-time decision on who will defend the home net, but Washington's star goalie, Ilya Samsonov has been a workout for the Capitals. He's allowing 2.85 goals per game with a .905 save percentage. If he plays, he should be able to shut down the Senators with ease.

Final Senators-Capitals Prediction and Pick

In a matchup where one team has won 10 straight times, it's safe to say you ride that team. The Capitals haven't been playing very well as of late, and the Senators tend to play up to their competition, but Washington just has more talent and chemistry on their roster, especially playing a team on the second half of their back-to-back series. The odds for a -1.5 puck line aren't great, considering the matchup, but I'll take it anyway, especially since it's still barely in plus money.

Final Senators-Capitals Prediction and Pick: Washington -1.5 (+100)
