When the Green Back Packers released tight end Martellus Bennett, everyone assumed the New England Patriots would scoop him up. Those people were correct.

What people were not predicting, however, was several teammates coming out to say some iffy things about the veteran talent.

Linebacker Ahmad Brooks claimed to have asked Bennett about the retirement talk. This is what he claims to have happened.

“He said he was just talking crap,” Brooks said.

Offensive lineman David Bakhtiari also chimed in. After saying a few nice things, he finished it off with a pretty cryptic sentence.

“Definitely surprised. We’re just disappointed with what happened with him. It was high expectations, and good guy that came in, but just kind of – it sucks. Kind of disappointed with how he handled stuff, how it went about,” Bakhitari said.

After returning to the Patriots, Bennett took to Twitter with a pair of cryptic tweets which hint to the fact the divorce with the Packers didn’t go so well.

Bennett, who clearly went to Green Bay to play with Aaron Rodgers, didn't exactly have a great stint while with the National Football League franchise. The veteran tight end caught only 24 passes for 233 yards without a trip to the end zone.

Remove the potential retirement talk from the conversation for now, while he didn't exactly set the world on fire with the Packers, Bennett back with the Patriots now likely means better production is waiting for him.

Only time will tell if he will actually hang it up at the end of the season.
