When people think of teams who can contend for a Super Bowl in the upcoming NFL season, there’s a list of usual suspects that pop up. While the Carolina Panthers may not necessarily be on that list, one former NFL player thinks that the team is ready to break out, and could be a team that flies under the radar this season.

Speaking to WFNZ’s Kyle Bailey via 247 Sports, former NFL player and Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme said that he thinks the Panthers are in great shape for the upcoming season.

Specifically noting the offense and its young talent, Delhomme thinks the team – with offensive coordinator Norv Turner – can fly under the radar.

“I anticipate (Cam) having a very big year. I think the Panthers are better around him,” Delhomme said. “Think about it: You have Greg Olsen that's back, Ian Thomas who really showed some promise towards the latter part of the year. Christian McCaffrey, I don't think much more needs to be said. But the receivers: Getting (Curtis) Samuel back, seeing D.J. Moore in his second year, I just think getting all those guys – I think there's some weapons …. that he has and Norv's gonna use. And I think it's gonna be fun to watch, I really and truly believe that.

“I believe we are a under the radar type of team. Because one, everybody's gonna talk about the Saints. And that's correct – they should. But this is gonna be a dangerous football team.”

While most media and fans would peg the Saints or Los Angeles Rams as teams ready to contend for a Super Bowl, the Panthers haven’t been mentioned too much.

Although they boast an extremely talented group, the Panthers haven’t been able to put together a full season since their 2015 Super Bowl run.

With a now healthy Cam Newton and a blossoming young offensive group, this could be the year we see the Panthers make another run, however.
