Nick Caserio is leaving the New England Patriots and taking the general manager job for the Houston Texans.

On the daily Locked On Patriots podcast, Mike Debate dove into why this is such a huge loss for Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots.

Debate: How does this impact the Patriots? Well, not only do they have a director of player personnel position open, but also, Nick Caserio was Bill Belichick’s right-hand man. The biggest thing that the Patriots are going to miss about Caserio is that Bill trusted Nick to make moves on his and the Patriots’ behalf. It is not a trust that is easily earned. Bill will still have the final say but still had plenty of freedom to do his job. The new director of player of personnel that comes in, whoever he or she may be, they are not only going to have some logistical shoes to fill but they are also going to have to earn the trust of Bill Belichick. Again, two very tall tasks for a franchise that has been one of the most successful in all of the professional sports in the last two decades. If that is not a hard enough wrong to right, Houston’s choice to bring Nick Caserio on board may have impacted the Patriots on more than one level. He had a great relationship with a lot of coaches on the coaching staff and in Houston, he may want to take a little New England flavor with him.
