New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels interviewed with a couple of teams for head coaching positions this month, but he ultimately decided to return to the Patriots in 2019.

You would hope that if McDaniels does end up landing another head-coaching job someday, he will handle it better than he handled the situation in Indianapolis a year ago.

Last February, McDaniels was hired by the Indianapolis Colts and seemed all ready to take the job before bailing on the Colts in the midnight hour, forcing them to pivot to Frank Reich.

McDaniels was lambasted for his change of heart, and a year later, he admits that he isn't proud of the way things went down.

“It’s a lot that goes into it,” McDaniels said Monday night of his decision to ultimately reject the Colts, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. “I think at the end of the day you have to make the best decision for yourself and your family. I’ve said this a number of times: The timing of all that stuff was not. . . . I wasn’t proud of any of that stuff. Really happy for their success in Indianapolis this year and a significant amount of respect for those guys and excited they had a good year, the year that they had, and a very, very bright future.”

The 42-year-old does have some head coaching experience, as he patrolled the Denver Broncos' sideline for nearly two years before being fired 12 games into his second season. McDaniels went just 11-17 in his short run as Broncos coach.
