Belichick broke his silence on Brady's retirement with an endearing message, calling the seven-time Super Bowl winner as the ā€œbest player in NFL history.ā€ The Patriots tactician went on to say how Brady has proven to be the ā€œultimate competitor and winnerā€ who pursued excellence throughout his 22-year career in professional football.

ā€œI am privileged to have drafted and coached Tom Brady, the ultimate competitor and winner. Tom's humble beginning in professional football ultimately ended with him becoming the best player in NFL history,ā€ Belichick wrote, per Yahoo.

ā€œTom consistently performed at the highest level against competition that always made him the number one player to stop. His pursuit of excellence was inspirational. Tom was professional on and off the field, and carried himself with class, integrity, and kindness. I thank Tom for his relentless pursuit of excellence and positive impact on me and the New England Patriots for 20 years.ā€

Tom Brady certainly appreciated the heartfelt message and responded on Instagram with just as high a praise for his former coach. The 44-year-old called Bill Belichick the ā€œgreatest coach in NFL historyā€ as he showed his appreciation that he was guided by such a legend.

ā€œThank you Coach Belichick. I appreciate being coached by you, the Greatest Coach in NFL History,ā€ Brady wrote as he reposted the Patriots tactician's message.

For what it's worth, Brady made headlines after he announced his official retirement as several people pointed out that he snubbed Belichick and the Patriots. While he has since acknowledged the team and his coach, there are speculations that he held back in his message for New England because they are preparing something grand to celebrate his retirementā€“possibly a one-day contract that would allow the legendary signal-caller to retire with the team.
