New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady still hasn’t told anyone, either privately or publicly, that he'll be playing in the 2018 season, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. But despite the lack of a commitment at this time, people close to Brady do expect him to play this year.

“My money would be on him playing football for the foreseeable future, but what goes on away from the football field, I don't know,” one source told ESPN. “I don't know.”

Even though Brady still wants to play football, he’ll be 41 by the start of the season and wants to spend more time with his family. There are also people around him who would like him to finally retire.

Brady was not present for the start of the Patriots’ offseason program as he went off to Qatar to do charity work. However, he’s also not expected to be a regular participant in those workouts as he plans to spend more time with his family and work out with body coach Alex Guerrero.

If Brady does decide not to play for the upcoming season, the Patriots’ only other quarterback currently on the roster is Brian Hoyer. The team traded away backup Jimmy Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers last season as they believed Brady intended to play well into his 40s.

The Patriots have been strongly linked with picking a quarterback in next week’s draft. After acquiring an additional first-round pick in the trade for Brandin Cooks, they could possibly try to trade up to take one of the top QBs in the class.

Given the uncertainty surrounding Brady to even play for the upcoming season, it seems more likely that the Patriots do draft a quarterback and prepare themselves for the possibility of Brady suddenly deciding to call it quits.
