San Francisco 49ers wide receivers coach Wes Welker finds himself in familiar territory at Super Bowl LIV. He has come a long way since his days as a player trying to win a championship with the New England Patriots.

Of course, Welker's time in New England was not all sunshine and rainbows. He recalled head coach Bill Belichick giving him a lashing about the time he trolled former New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan about his foot fetish, via Zack Cox of NESN:

“Oh yeah, absolutely. … It wasn’t good,” Welker told reporters. “All learning experiences. … That’s why I like my guys being themselves.”

Belichick has quite the reputation for running a tight ship over in New England so it should hardly come as any surprise to see that even a player like Welker was scolded for something that seemed to be so minor. Fortunately, his punishment was not too severe after he was sat out of the opening drive due to it being a playoff game.

Regardless, Welker's comments appear to indicate that he likes to take a much more relaxed approach when it comes to his coaching style. This has clearly paid huge dividends for his group led by wide receivers Emmanuel Sanders and Deebo Samuel as they get set to prepare for a Super Bowl.

It will be interesting to see if this is the blueprint that ultimately lands him his first championship ring after three failed attempts during his days as a player with the Patriots and Denver Broncos.
