Former NFL wide receiver Wes Welker is currently an offensive assistant for the Houston Texans, but he might be moving on.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Welker interviewed for assistant coaching jobs with the Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers. He met with the Packers last week before sitting down with the 49ers on Monday.

While there aren't any details on the specific jobs that Welker interviewed for, either would likely be a promotion.

Welker has been an assistant on Bill O'Brien's staff in Houston for the last two years. Last season, the Denver Broncos asked for permission to interview their former wide out for a wide receivers coaching position, but the Texans denied the Broncos' request.

The 37-year-old played 12 seasons in the NFL before being forced to retire in 2015 due to persistent concussion issues.

He began his career as an undrafted receiver for the San Diego Chargers, playing in just one game for the Chargers in 2004 before moving over to the Miami Dolphins that same season.

Welker resided in South Beach through 2006 and then made his way to the New England Patriots, where Tom Brady helped transform him into one of the most productive wide outs in the game.

He spent six years with the Patriots, leading the league in receptions three times and making five Pro Bowls while also earning a couple of First-Team All-Pro selections.

Welker then headed to the Denver Broncos in 2013, playing with Peyton Manning for two seasons before ending his career with the St. Louis Rams in 2015.
