New Orleans Pelicans All-Star Anthony Davis has heard his name tossed about in several trade scenarios over the past few weeks. While there is no indication that he is unhappy in New Orleans, this is just the name of the game with his free agency coming up in 2020. Quite a few teams are naturally interested in Davis, including the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics. However, Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry is staying focused on the here and now.

“That’s what you guys talk about,” Gentry told reporters of the Davis rumors. “We don’t talk about it. So he’s here. He’s playing on our team. We’re trying to win games. That’s the only thing that matters right now.

“It’s not anything that I’m going to have a say-so in or anything else, so we don’t bother about it,” Gentry added. “We worry about winning games and putting everybody in the best situation to win games.”

The Pelicans (10-11 and fourth in the Southwest Division standings) are off to a decent start to this season, though some would argue that their record should be a bit better.

Davis, now 25 years of age, is enjoying a great season. The former Kentucky Wildcat has made 17 appearances with the Pelicans this season, averaging 27.0 points on 48.6 percent shooting from the field (33.3 percent from beyond the arc), 12.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 2.7 blocks and 1.6 steals in a career-high 37.5 minutes per outing.

Davis likely won't be traded this season because he still has another season on his contract, but the rumors are only going to get louder if New Orleans struggles. Clearly, there are a lot of teams around the league who would love to have a player of his caliber.
