The New Orleans Pelicans have some crucial decisions to make in the offseason, including the re-signing of some of their key stars.

Head coach Alvin Gentry and general managed Dell Demps said the team will like to bring back center DeMarcus Cousins as well as point guard Rajon Rondo this offseason, according to the team.

“We want DeMarcus back on our team,” said Gentry. “Everybody has said that”

Demps echoed the same sentiment.

“In a perfect world, we'd love to have them back,” said Demps. “But sometimes things happen that you can't control in free agency. In a perfect world we'd like to have him and Rondo back.”

“We still want to add to our team, we feel like we want to build off of this season. We want to grow.”

The Pelicans would be well over the luxury tax and unable to bring back some of their key cogs if they sign Cousins to a max deal, leaving no room for adds and unable to keep some of their key role players for next season.

Rondo, who made the $3.3 million as a mid-level exception one-year deal, would only make $5 million for this upcoming season if Cousins was to be paid the max, also endangering a potential long-term deal for Nikola Mirotic in the future.

New Orleans could offer a short-term deal, but it'll be up to Cousins to take it. According to his decision, the rest of the dominoes are expected to follow accordingly.
