Anthony Davis requested a trade from the New Orleans Pelicans last month. He's represented by Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, agent and longtime friend of LeBron James. Subsequent reporting following his trade request indicated that Davis plans to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent regardless of where he might be dealt between now and the summer of 2020. James selected Davis with his first bench pick in the All-Star draft, and it was revealed earlier this week that the Pelicans' stranded superstar will be making an appearance on the upcoming episode of HBO's “The Shop,” a show starring and produced by James and business partner Maverick Carter.

For all those reasons and more, prevailing wisdom says Davis will ultimately end up wearing forum blue and gold. Before he has the chance to do so, though, the Pelicans host the Lakers on Saturday afternoon – and Davis is still uncertain if he'll be suiting up.

“I'm not sure,” he told Will Guillory of The Athletic about his status for Saturday's game. “I have to talk to the team. I think we're going to meet about it, figure it out and let me know tomorrow.”

Davis played 20 minutes in his team's 126-111 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Friday, scoring 15 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and doling out four assists on 6-of-11 shooting.

The league had previously informed the Pelicans they would obligated to play Davis if healthy, lest they incur a $100,000 fine for every game they choose to sit him. But New Orleans has reportedly pushed back on that edict of late, leading some to believe the team will be more aggressive in protecting his trade value regardless of any consequences to come from the league office.
