After ultimately being unable to force a move away from the New Orleans Pelicans prior to the trade deadline, Anthony Davis is definitely in a bit of a pickle with his team. Everyone knows he wants out, and things might just be a little bit awkward between the Pelicans soon-to-be-former cornerstone star and the rest of the team — front office, coaching staff, and teammates all included.

Nevertheless, Davis believes that he has done nothing wrong, and is merely just looking out for himself and his own personal interests. This is via Kurt Helin of NBC Sports.

“All the media coverage around me, and now I’m getting a chance to take over my career and say what I want to say and do what I want to do,” Davis said as he spoke on LeBron James' HBO show, “The Shop,” “So now you see everybody [saying], ‘All right, I see AD changing.’ Everybody’s telling me, ‘You’re growing up. It’s about time to take care of your business, take care of your career.’”

In Davis' mind, this is all just a natural part of his growth as a player. Now in his seventh season in the league, he feels that it is the right time to be the captain of his own ship, so to speak.

“So now, as a player, as the CEO of my own business, I’ve got the power,” he added. “I’m doing what I want to do and not what somebody tells me to do.”

While this might sound selfish and self-centered to some, this is actually no different from when a team trades a player away equipped with a mindset stating that “this is just a business.” Davis has every right to do what he deems necessary for his own career, and at the end of the day, not anyone can and should tell him otherwise.
