New Orleans Pelicans guard JJ Redick claims that the deciding factor in choosing New Orleans was the fact that the team had so much young potential.

In a conference call with the media on Tuesday, Redick said he was immediately excited upon learning that the Pelicans were interested in him. He pointed that with the change that the team was making, it seems only fitting that he joins them.

“You kind of get the notion a couple weeks out (of free agency) which teams are interested in you, and when I heard the Pelicans were interested – and you take away any sort of number on the contract – immediately I was excited. You know they’re getting Zion (Williamson), and you know they’re making a trade, and with having Jrue (Holiday) on the team, there’s a lot of momentum.”

Redick has good reason to be excited about the Pelicans' future. After all, with a bevy of young talent, New Orleans will be one of the most interesting teams in the league next season.

The team acquired a boatload of youngster this offseason. In addition to 2019 top overall pick Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Jaxson Hayes will make up the Pelicans' frontcourt. Guards Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart are also intriguing backcourt players players with untapped potential.

Redick will have his hands full knocking down threes and mentoring some of the young players in New Orleans. A few years down the road, this could be a very scary team.
